Trenton Scores 6 in 7th Inning

May 11, 2009 Mark Fontes

The Trenton Thunder assure themselves of a series win against the Binghamton Mets.

It's been said that the number 7 is a lucky one.

For the Trenton Thunder (13-13) it has been their lucky inning, at least on this recent homestand. They erupt for 6 runs right after the stretch to break what was a 2-2 tie, and run away with another blowout win, 9-2.

Outfielder Colin Curtis orchestrated the rally. His 3-run triple cleared the bases and made way for the magic that followed.

"It was big," Curtis remarks about the hit. "We were playin' a good ball game, it was a close game, and then I kinda broke it open. "Vazquez came up and knocked me in, and then we kept it going from there. I just think that that momentum really carried us over."

The hit came with no outs, and the Thunder came up with more offense to take an 8-2 lead into the 8th inning. Then they added another run. Binghamton added two runs of their own in the top of the ninth but it was far from enough as the Thunder improved to 13-13 on the year.

"You look at the last two days of how we've played compared to weeks past and I think it's been a different attitude," Curtis adds. "I can tell a big difference in the way guys are handling themselves and the way they're attacking the game. So far it's been pretty successful."

Thunder Pitching

Starting pitcher Zach McAllister lasted 5 2/3 innings for the Thunder. He earned a no-decision. Kaneoka Texeira came on in relief and earned the victory. He stayed for 2 2/3 innings, and was pulled in the ninth inning as Binghamton started mounting their short rally.

All in all, Trenton manager Tony Franklin is liking his team's newfound winning ways.

"We need more nights like that," he says. "We've played a few errorless games lately. That does make a difference, and we need to continue to do that. We've been at a deficit for a long time."

Trenton Homestand

The Thunder wrap up their three game series with the Mets Sunday at Waterfront Park. They look to get back over the .500 mark, which they sank below on their recent road trip.

Franklin is hoping three straight wins at home will rid his team of the memory of the road swing.

"I wasn't very happy with out road trip, and I let them know it," Franklin adds. "I just wanted to let them know this is very serious business...you've got to leave it out on the field. If you're going to be a major league player...that means playing like a major league player here in the double A."
